– The City of Medicine Hat has ratified a new collective agreement with Local #46 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees covering all of the City’s Inside and Outside Workers. The previous agreement expired on December 31, 2016.
The new agreement is from January 1, 2017 until December 31, 2019 and includes general wage increases of 0% effective January 1, 2017, 2% effective January 1, 2018 and 2% effective January 1, 2019.
“The City and the Union have struck a fair balance that will support the continued delivery of quality services to Medicine Hat residents and meet the needs of our staff,” said Merete Heggelund, the City’s Chief Administrative Officer. “Local #46 and its members should be recognized for negotiating and ratifying a collective agreement that provides for sustainable wage adjustments considering Alberta’s current economic climate and the financial challenges facing the organization.”
The settlement between the City and CUPE reflects the wage escalation assumptions included in the 2017-18 budget and supports the City’s Financially Fit for the Future plan.
