Medicine Hat – Nominations are now being accepted for the 2017 Civic Recognition Awards. The awards honour individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to the community and who by their dedication, activities and/or accomplishments have enhanced the quality of life in Medicine Hat.

“Residents who contribute to the well-being of others are a community’s social glue,” says Les Pearson, Councillor for Civic Functions. “These are the givers, the contributors, the joiners, coaches, fundraisers, Boards and committee members.”

Civic Recognition Awards honour those individuals who have made contributions in the following categories: Cultural, Environmental, Humanitarian, Sports/Recreational, Community Inclusion and Community Service.

Requirements for nominations include:

  • A completed Civic Recognition Awards nomination form
  • A brief biography / resume of nominee
  • A letter of support from the nominator
  • Any additional information that supports the application
  • A high quality digital image of the nominee

  • Nominees may be residents of Medicine Hat, Redcliff or the County of Cypress, however, the extraordinary contribution(s) must benefit residents of Medicine Hat
  • The nominator must be a resident of Medicine Hat
  • Nominee must agree to the nomination

“There are many ways to recognize these types of contributions: a greeting smile, a handshake or even a simple thank you. The City’s Civic Recognition Awards are another” says Pearson. “You can help. Nominate an outstanding resident who deserves Medicine Hat’s appreciation.”

The deadline to submit a nomination form is Friday, March 17, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. For further information, award guidelines and nomination forms, please call 403.502.8719 or visit
