Q: How will I know when my neighborhood is going to be swept?
Municipal Works divides the City into 17 zones (see map on main street sweeping page).   The sweepers start in zone 1 and finish in zone 17.  Each year, the zones are rotated so all neighborhoods have the opportunity to be swept first.  It takes approximately two days to complete a zone (depending on weather conditions).

Large signs are placed in neighborhood entrances a minimum of 12 hours prior to sweeping.  Smaller ‘No Parking in this Block’ signs are also placed on the specific streets that will be swept.

Q: What time are the sweepers out?
RESIDENTIAL:   7 AM to 8 PM Monday to Friday
COMMERCIAL / INDUSTRIAL:    5 AM to 7 AM (as needed)

Q: Do I have to move my vehicle off the street?
Yes as per Traffic Bylaw 2434 Section 18.5. It is important to remove vehicles for public safety, sweeper operator safety and a more quick and efficient operation. Where possible, streets and avenues will be signed ‘no parking’ at different times to accommodate parking needs.

Q: What will happen if I do not move my vehicle?
If your vehicle is not moved 12 hours after the street sweeping signs are placed in your neighborhood, you may be ticketed or towed under Traffic Bylaw 2434. If you are concerned about a vehicle that is not yours, or one that cannot be moved, please phone Bylaw Enforcement 403.529.8480.

Q: What about gravel and sand on my sidewalk or boulevard?
If sand and gravel was deposited on your sidewalk or boulevard during snow clearance and sanding operations, you may sweep it on to the road prior to the street sweeping.

Q: Why do “I” have to sweep the gravel off my sidewalk or boulevard?
Under Bylaw 1556, the adjacent property owner is responsible for maintaining the boulevard/sidewalk free and clear of debris.

Q: What if I have front garbage pickup?
Street sweeping will NOT INTERRUPT your regular garbage pick up.  However, after pick up please remove your garbage bin from the street in a timely manner so we can sweep the street.

Q: An area in front of my home was not swept. Will you come back and clean it?
Municipal Works will note the location and at the end of the street sweeping program, will re-visit the area when time permits.

Q: Will street sweeping continue if it rains or snows?
It is difficult for sweepers to operate effectively after rain or snowfall. Sweeping may be delayed, but Municipal Works will complete the street sweeping schedule once conditions return to normal.
